Round 2 for The Realm

The Realm, Atomhawk Design and Lantern Interactive’s imaginative evolution of the point-and-click adventure game, was sadly unsuccessful in reaching its £195,000 Kickstarter target earlier this week.

Title - The Realm is in the zone

We’ve been following The Realm here at 1001-Up.com since the end of April and we’re absolutely gutted that it hasn’t succeeded first time around. Despite numerous mentions in the media – including a recent interview with The Guardian, a feature on the BBC News and articles on your favourite site – the project received only 48% of its intended funding from 3,384 backers and finally came in £100,473 short.

But all hope isn’t lost: in an update sent to their backers today the developers advised that they plan to relaunch their campaign later this year with a US account. They’re also going to work on producing game footage in order to display more of their beautiful game and come back even stronger next time around.

The team wrote: “So we’ve reached the end of our Kickstarter campaign and we must thank you so much for all your amazing support throughout the last 30 days. It didn’t end up the way we would have liked it but still we achieved an amazing amount of pledges and that is all thanks to you.” There are some positives to be taken from this experience however; The Realm is actually one of the top-funded UK titles ever so the future is still looking bright for Sarina and Toru.

In fact, there are a ton of comments on the Kickstarter page from backers saying that they’ll be there for round two and we certainly echo this sentiment. Atomhawk Design and Lantern Interactive are asking people to connect with them through their Facebook page, Twitter account and a dedicated mailing list to stay in touch.

As said by the developers themselves, “We may not have won the battle but the war is not over yet!” This is an imaginative game from a team who are obviously passionate about their project and it deserves to succeed. While we’re totally heart-broken that we won’t get to meet their headstrong girl and legendary golem just yet, you can be sure that this won’t be the last you hear about The Realm.
