A while back we told you about an exciting project we found on Kickstarter by Matthew Kenyon: Everyday is Play. We’re pleased to say that the campaign has succeeded and the 1001-Up.com team couldn’t be happier.

Title - Everyday is Play fully funded

Everyday is Play is an imaginative, creative and stunning-looking book created by talented author Matthew Kenyon. The concept is quite simple: it takes a look at not only Kenyon’s vision of what gaming means to him, but many other contributors also share their view of the video game world. Through a series of interviews, drawings and paintings from a host of people from different backgrounds including designers, musicians and artists, this book will discover what got these people into gaming and why they continue to be proud gamers to this day.

Something we like when we back a project is if the developer or creator sends regular updates throughout their Kickstarter campaign, and Everyday is Play had them in spades. Some of my favourites were when the project reached fifty percent of its £26,000 goal and it was announced that backers could choose a custom wrap for their book from a selection of chosen images. There will also be a backer-created poster, in which supporters will be given certain amount of pixels (depending on what reward tier selected) to create something that shows what gaming means to them.

In his victory e-mail, Kenyon couldn’t sound happier and it’s understandable: with such a risky project to try and sell to hardcore gamers, no wonder he’s jumping for joy. He said: “Thank you, we did it together. It’s amazing to see that so many people believe in an idea, and a culture that the idea came from – and decided to jump in and make it happen.” Kenyon also went on to say: “It’s been an emotional month, in many ways. We have always had faith in the project, and have been fortunate enough to not only know so many amazing people with crazy talent, but to attract them too.”

So well done to him and all who are involved in the project going forward. It would have been such a shame if this book didn’t see the light of day and so it’s a relief to see such a brilliantly unique project get the chance to show how great it is. The 1001-Up.com team cannot wait for our copy to come through so we can see the nostalgia and remind ourselves of the reasons why we love gaming in the first place.
