Eden Star building a destiny

Over the past couple of weeks we’ve been writing about and championing an amazing new game we saw at the Eurogamer Expo 2013 called Eden Star. When we met Flix Interactive, the team behind the title they told us that their Kickstarter project was nearly ready to go. This is now finally up and running and 1001-Up.com is proud to say that we’re proud backers of this fine title.

Title - Best of Eurogamer Eden Star

Eden Star is an immersive first-person, survival-creation game; blending unique physics-based combat, destructible environments, freeform construction, resource management and completely dynamic, free-running navigation. Players excavate resources from the world of Pharus 7 in order to fund the expansion and development of unique and powerful technologies as they create, destroy and manipulate the world around them.

When we had the privilege of getting our hands on the game we were totally blown away by how great it looked, even in its pre-alpha state. It seems like the Eden Star we saw has come on leaps and bounds when compared to the Kickstarter page and it’s clearly not pre-alpha any more! The graphics look great and Flix Interactive go into great detail about all the different mechanics that you can expect to use in the title in the video below.

One of these mechanics that we’re most excited about is the free-running element. It reminds us so much of Mirror’s Edge, but Eden Star trumps this classic title by the fact that you’re not limited to where the developer wants to take you. You can go climb and run anywhere you want, and the ability to move blocks around and create your own platforms just makes this dynamic more and more interesting. Players are able to grab enemies in mid-air with the RMD tool on the protagonist’s arm and throw these baddies anywhere and up against anything your heart desires. The CornerStone construction system in Eden Star is unique, championing a freeform build mechanic that allows you to place an object in any orientation without it having to be snapped to a grid.

Even though the game plays great as a single-player, it will also introduce a co-operative mode. As mentioned on the Kickstarter page, playing as a team will provide richer rewards in a shorter time frame and add a more engaging experience. This system though is currently in development and will allow for players to invite three of their friends into their own game; this should provide the basis for further multiplayer functionality.

So please head on over to Kickstarter right now and back this fantastic project. Eden Star’s goal is £620,000 with a deadline of 29 November 2013. If this project succeeds you’ll not only get one hell of a game but you will know it’s been made by one of the most passionate and dedicated teams you could meet; it would be a crime if Eden Star didn’t succeed.
