We recently backed a Kickstarter project for Precinct, a police adventure game by former Sierra Online developer and Police Quest creator Jim Walls. Unfortunately we received an update from the team this week confirming that the campaign has been cancelled.
With only fifteen percent funding received and a week left on the clock, it was pretty clear that Precinct sadly wasn’t going to reach its target of $500,000. In the cancellation email, the development team explained what may have gone wrong and the issues potential backers might have had: “Throughout the project we’ve had a ton of great feedback from the community. It’s clear you love Police Quest and Jim Walls, but there are questions about the project. One of the things we’ve heard is that you want to see more. You want to understand what the game is going to be like. How is it going to play? How is the first-person perspective going to work? What will the balance of the action and adventure be?”
The points above are all valid ones as the lack of anything visual or playable was starting to be a worry. But this isn’t the end of Precinct as the team has another plan up their sleeves: “So as of [06 August 2013] we are shutting down our Kickstarter and launching a new and unique crowd funding campaign. Our goal is to create a staged funding campaign that lets you see the vision in as little time as possible.”
This is great news as it means that we’ll one day get to walk the corrupt streets of Fraser Canyon, CA, enforcing the law and clearing up the city. The team obviously have such a passion for the project that they won’t let it die – take a look at the official website and pledge as much as you can to give them a hand and get Precinct off the ground.
